Welcome 2025

Looking back, 2024 was an amazing year. There is a phrase that goes something like this: “There are decades where nothing happens and years where decades happen.” Of course that is a paraphrased version, but 2024 was a year where so much happened especially when compared with some previous years. Looking back, 2024 was a year that saw a global return of traditional thinking. I began to watch some of the many recaps of 2024 and a lot of the events were things I had nearly forgotten about… or at least forgot that they had happened in 2024.

The New Year promises a lot of new experiences and opportunities. It is a time for personal growth and learning. New Year’s Resolutions are like a challenge for personal growth and learning, but it is surprising to note that about 40% of adults in the US set New Year’s Resolutions. Of those who commit to a New Year’s Resolution, about 25% of New Year’s Resolutions fail within the first 7 days. About 35% make it beyond January, and only about 10% of New Year’s Resolutions remain by the end of the year. New Year’s Resolutions can be large or small, but it is definitely a challenge. To be part of the 10% feels rewarding in the end especially to know that it is for your personal growth.

2025 is going to be a year of work. Work is not always a bad thing. Work can get tiring after a while, but the result from work is amazing. No, I am not taking about a job, but instead work as in accomplishing something. At the Philosophical Rambler, that might be more intellectual thinking and writing and growth, elsewhere, it may just be becoming physically fit or mentally strong. It might be starting a business or trying a new hobby. It is progress made to better ourselves.

Philosophical Rambler was founded with this type of work in mind. Today, we are celebrating our Fourth Anniversary. We are looking back at how we started and what we have become. Although Philosophical Rambler was not a New Year’s Resolution, It is a perfect representation of what a New Year’s Resolution can be. We support personal growth and encourage it.

As we begin the New Year, let us take time to look back at 2024 and use it to encourage us in our new growth. Let us push through the hard times and our lack of motivation and become the 10%. Let New Year’s Resolutions be a way of pushing ourselves to new levels and new highs which we have never seen before so we ourselves become part the 10%. Let us not see it as a fun little challenge, but as a serious goal which we seek to obtain. Let us become the best of ourselves and continue to learn and seek truth, develop skills which we will use for the rest of our lives, and grow our characters to the limits and take advantage of the start of this New Year. When we push through the difficulties of a New Year’s Resolution, we feel accomplished because of the difficulties we overcame. No one said that it was easy, but the fact that we can be part of the 10% by not giving up is all it takes to achieve your goals. That is called perseverance.

Take some time to make some New Year’s Resolutions and make the effort to become the 10%. On behalf of the team here at Philosophical Rambler, I wish the best to you as we start the New Year and we hope that you will make the most out of 2025!
